At school I was exceptionally good at Art and English Language, two subjects that I did not progress in as I loved business also. I had visualized my career in this subject and it has been a career that I am now immensely proud of.
Life is very unpredictable and regardless of where you are in your life things happen for a reason. Little did I know those subjects that I loved at school would be the very thing that brought me the most happiness as an adult. Hospitality & business has been my career for 20 years and I have learnt so many valuable skills, but my true happiness was found in writing. It was found in art. It was found in imagination.
Imagination is a wonderful and beautiful gift that many people underestimate, and we do not encourage enough but when put into the context of our lives some of the world’s greatest achievements have started with a single idea.
“Man is a genius when he is dreaming.” Akira Kurosawa
When you think of anything that we use it has started with an idea. A thought, a creation brought to life though imagination. Think of anything, a car, the internet, a pair of sneakers, all brought to life with a spark. A creative mind. So why would we not encourage imagination? For our imagination has no limits. We should applaud the creative minds, the dreamers, and the happily ever after. If you can imagine it, then you can see it, if you can see it then can try to achieve it.
Anything is possible with imagination.
“Microsoft is a company that manages imagination.” Bill Gates
As a society we tend not to value creativity as a career when in fact it could be fulfilling and valuable. Like many children I was a dreamer, I believed in good and I believed in fairy tales. We should encourage young minds for without imagination how soulless our world would be. Your child could be the next film director, editor, producer, composer, or the doctor who discovers a vaccine but most of all they get to live a life that they have imagined and have dreamed.
“Every child is born blessed with a vivid imagination.” Walt Disney
Some of the best advertisements I have seen this year have been about imagination and the belief in something good. As an adult it resonated with me so much. Imagination is beautiful. When we are lonely, we are imagining time with our friends and family, when we are tired, we imagine beautiful settings of relaxation. We all have imagination. As adults we tend to stop believing. Believing in ourselves and our abilities to achieve those dreams. If I could wish anything for you it would be to imagine a life of happiness. I life of happiness for you.
Imagination has been used to overcome diversity, to bring joy, to bring together and heal communities, to unite men and bring peace and to cure the sick.
This Christmas keep imagination alive, keep believing in good and keep dreaming. For I will be imaging a world with less hunger, less suffering and we come together as one.
