With the start of a new year, we all have good intentions. A new year of aspirations and goals that we want to achieve but how many of us fulfill them?
I too have been guilty of this in the past, we are all human. One of the biggest new year’s resolutions is to get healthy. Enjoy a healthy living. There are many people who struggle daily regarding their lifestyle and I used to be one of them. What changed my mindset completely? It was simple, watching a loved one die has a profound impact on you in all regards of your well-being and something I was extremely aware of. It was enough motivation for me to change my lifestyle.
Something I now value more than ever is time and if I could prolong my life a little longer by changing a few little things in my life then for me it was totally worth it. As you get older one thing you learn to appreciate more is your body, your mind, and your health. When you are younger you think you are invincible that nothing will ever happen to you, but the reality is the human body is breakable. You only get one skin; one mind and one body so why would you not invest in the very thing you need to survive?
So, what defines a healthy life? Many people have visions of mountain climbing, completing a marathon, or working out at the gym 7 days a week. Yes, there are people who enjoy those things but that does not have to be you. A healthy life is about your choices. A few simple choices that will impact you greatly. What you eat, how you sleep, what you consume. When I say choices, I do not mean the extreme unless you have decided you want to but subtle changes gradually that then become your way of life. What you consume daily has an impact on your health, what you read, what you watch, what you do and who surround yourself with. Anything that gives you negative energy is preventing you from feeling good and life is way too short to be anything but happy.
“Every small positive change we make in ourselves repays us in confidence in the future.” Alice Walker
Do you require motivation? Motivation is different for everyone and we all have our own personal reasons why we choose to do the things we do but how about living a life that helps you to become better, to think better and to do better? What better motivation than to make you happy. It is true when they say happiness does come from within.
So, if like many others you have used the expression ‘A new year and a new me’ and need a little encouragement to follow through, just remember this. The biggest investment in your life will be the time you dedicate to you.
“If you want to be happy, be”. Leo Tolstoy
